The Spectacular Guide About Scottish Trews!

In Scotland, trousers are known as trews. For centuries, they were a practical garment worn by men on the farms and in the country.

It is typically made of heavy woollen fabric, although other materials such as cotton may also be used. Scottish Trews are a type of trousers that are worn by men in Scotland, Ireland and Wales. they have been made by the tartan fabric which is mostly common for making kilts. it is composed of a fabric of symmetrical check designs that are known as setts.

Tartan patterns are said to be one of the most popular types of checked patterns. They can be seen on many items such as clothes like kilts, curtains and tablecloths, furniture and even cars.

Scottish Tartan Trews

History of Scottish Trews:

The Scottish Trews date back to 1538 as a style of woven plaid material trousers as a piece of clothing ideally utilised during the Good country winter where the kilt would be unreasonable in such cold weather.
The history of Scottish Trews has been long and fascinating, starting as a part of everyday clothing and evolving into what we know today. The earliest known reference to the trews dates back to 1327 when they were worn by Scots soldiers in battle. While they started out as practical clothes for fighting on the battlefield,

they soon became fashionable among both the upper classes and lower classes in Scotland during the 17th century. In 1702, they were worn by the second Earl of Argyll and when he was not wearing his Scottish trews, he would be wearing a kilt. In 1743, there was a large influx of Scottish Trews from Scotland to London. As British people began to identify with their national style more and more, the popularity of Scottish Trews began to fade. During the 18th century, Scotland was led by a largely ineffective government and people engaged in many conflicts with England including

the Jacobite rebellion.  As a result of this, Scottish Trews were seen as symbols of nationalism and opposition to England. In 1796, Bonnie Prince Charlie’s army wore Scottish Trews during their march into England until they were defeated at the Battle of Culloden. After this battle, in which all of Charlie’s men were killed , Scotsmen stopped wearing their national style. Today, Scottish Trews are seen as an important part of Scotland’s history and culture.

How Do They Make Tartan Trews?

A tartan Trew is a traditional, hand-woven fabric that is made from sheep’s wool. Trews are traditional Scottish woollen garments that were traditionally woven by hand. The wool is sheared from the sheep’s back, combed and spun into yarn which is then woven into a cloth. Trews are often worn by country people as well as in the Scottish military.

A Scottish trew is made up of various materials, such as wool and linen. The materials are then woven into a fabric through a process called carding. The carding process involves the use of a large comb to break the fibres apart and create a dense, even surface for weaving.

The removal of the shearing wool by hand also creates a unique Tartan Fabric pattern in each trew. This pattern can vary depending on where it was woven and how it was woven or felted.
